About Ilyssa

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor practicing in Phoenix, Arizona. I work with teenagers and young and middle aged adults, and specialize in the treatment of eating disorders and related issues. I am passionate about helping individuals suffering from these debilitating and life threatening illnesses find a place of peace and acceptance within themselves. I also work with the families of those suffering from eating disorders to address relational issues that may be contributing to the disorder, and to provide education and support so that they are equipped to walk the path towards recovery alongside their loved one. In addition, I am committed to celebrating and affirming all people and wholeheartedly welcome those of all races, ethnicities, genders, sexual orientations, religions, and body sizes in my practice.

I specialize in the treatment of Anorexia, Bulimia, Binge Eating Disorder, and other variations of these disorders. In addition, I treat those suffering from depression, anxiety, trauma-related distress, substance use, and issues related to life transitions and stress.

I utilize a cognitive behavioral approach to therapy, while also incorporating a strengths-based, client-centered model. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and have received training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). I also abide by the Health at Every Size model in my work with clients.

I grew up in the Phoenix area and love living in the Valley of the Sun! I earned my Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Arizona in 2011 (Bear Down!) and my Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Arizona State University in 2013. I have been a practicing counselor since 2013 and have worked in both inpatient and outpatient settings. I currently live in Scottsdale with my husband, two young children, and our dog, Pippa. In my free time, I enjoy movement, spending time with family and friends, cooking, and traveling.
